Meet Our New Summer Intern!
The Cobb Law Group is pleased to introduce this year’s summer intern, Emmaline Brannon. Although she is a recent hire, she already demonstrates a great desire to learn and help with every task she is given. She will be a true asset to the incoming class at the School of Law at the University of Georgia!
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Emmaline Brannon and I’m a twenty-two-year-old recent graduate from the University of Georgia. I was born in Bainbridge, Georgia, grew up in Cairo, Georgia, and graduated from Brookwood School in Thomasville, Georgia in 2016. After high school, I attended the University of Georgia with the intent of studying business; however, I switched to political science because of my love for history, politics, and writing. While at UGA, I was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority and served on various DZ committees throughout the last four years. I was also a member of Hoop Girls, which helped with marketing the basketball team, and a Freshman Year Greek Leader. In the summer of 2018, I studied abroad at the University of Oxford and in 2019 I became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to my membership within these clubs, I also volunteered with various organizations as well. Most notably, I spent time every week tutoring children with the UGA program Whatever it Takes. This particular organization instilled a passion for helping those in need and acquiring the ability to generate positive change at the community level. In May of 2020, I received a B.S. in political science and a minor in history with honors from the University of Georgia. I plan to attend the University of Georgia School of Law in the fall.
Can you tell us more about your time at Whatever it Takes?
Whatever it Takes (WIT) is an after-school program in which UGA students volunteer to tutor, encourage, and support children in difficult situations. By meeting with the children weekly, tutors are able to witness the children’s energy, excitement, growth, and personalities develop throughout each school year. Since the start of my volunteer work with WIT freshman year, I saw the positive effects of this organization with not only the kids, but also the tutors. The relationships built with the children are truly unparalleled because the kids teach us just as much as we teach them. By helping the children read, write, and solve math problems the tutors, in turn, learned important lessons of patience, encouragement, and understanding. In addition, being a part of this organization helped me to understand the importance of community involvement and helping those in need. In fact, WIT was a big influence in my decision to apply to law school.
What made you want to go to law school and do you have a particular area you’re interested in studying?
Because I’ve grown up with several family members who work as attorneys, I’ve always been surrounded with and fascinated by the legal community. In high school, I especially noticed a particular appreciation for English, history, and civics. This appreciation continued to grow within my major and minor classes at UGA. As a result, I decided to go to law school in order to further develop my interest, understanding, and knowledge of these subject areas. In addition to my background and subject interest, the organization Whatever it Takes helped solidify my understanding of the importance of community involvement and helping others. I knew that as an attorney I could help bring about a positive change to those in need within a community I love.
At this time, I do not have a preference or particular area of the law that I want to practice. I hope that the various classes I will take and internships I pursue will help guide me into the direction of a particular field. I am open to learning about all of the different areas and look forward to finding a distinct path in the future.
Why did you want to intern with Cobb Law Group?
I recently became acquainted with Mr. Mark Cobb through friends last summer. I have gotten to know him and his wife fairly well over the last year and have greatly enjoyed their company on a personal level. I knew Mark had a successful professional life as an attorney, so I thought this summer would be a great opportunity to get to know him on a more professional level. As previously mentioned, I am open to learning about all areas of law and am eager to gain knowledge on the specific area of construction law handled by Cobb Law Group. I am very excited to learn as much information as I can under Mark’s guidance and work with him and his attorneys this summer.
Do you have any fun or unique hobbies you do in your free time?
My favorite thing to do is travel. Over the course of my life, I have been fortunate enough to see many different places around the world. I love being immersed within others’ cultures, traditions, cities, histories, food, and people. The knowledge and education provided by travel is, in my opinion, quite unmatched by most things.
In addition to travel, I love fashion as well. Fashion allows one to express his or her creativity, personal style, culture, and traditions. I have always enjoyed studying and observing fashion trends not only over historical periods of time, but also through the annual transitions of the fashion world.
