The Cobb Law Group is pleased to announce that Georgia construction and contracts lawyer, Mark Cobb, has been named Chairman-elect of the Board of Trustees for The Vashti Center.

“It was very humbling to be asked to serve in this very important capacity–particularly when we have so many wonderful employees and members of the Board of Trustees who do so much work for Vashti.  Truly, I am honored to serve our community and our youth in this capacity” states Mark.

Mark has served as a member of the Board of Trustees since 2010; since 2011 he has been the Vice-Chairman of the Board during which time he has been very active with development and fund-raising for Vashti; at the annual meeting in July 2013, Mark will be installed as the Chairman of the Board.  He will be succeeding the Hon. Roy Lilly of Thomasville, Georgia.  Mark owes a great deal of his involvment with Vashti to Judge Lilly and is grateful for his influence.

Since 1903, The Vashti Center has been serving the youth, children and families of southwest Georgia from its beautiul and historic campus in Thomasville, Georgia. It is a ministry of the United Methodist Church,  and the Vashti Center currently provides residential and outpatient programs for boys and girls between the ages 6 to 17 who are unable to function within the community due to emotional, behavioral, and psychological issues.  The outpatient program referred to as Clinical Services is a licensed mental health Center and works with over 200 youth and families in Thomas County, Decatur County, Grady County, Brooks County and surrounding areas.

Mark believes that “the Vashti Center has an outstanding reputation for helping youth overcome tremendous challenges, and it consistently receives the highest ratings from the various, governmental oversight authorities which inspect these types of facilities.  It is incumbent on every one involved to maintain the hard work to benefit the heart, head and the hand of the children served by The Vashti Center.”

The Vashti Center operates on a annual budget of almost $5 million dollars and receives funding from various agencies of the State of Georgia, annual charitable grants, and the generous donations of its many patrons.  Mark looks forward to assuming the role of chairman and hopes that his leadership will strengthen and build the important mission established by his predecessors.

Mark is a graduate of the Washington and Lee University School of Law, and he has received numerous awards, accolades and professional recognition.  He focuses his legal practice in the area of construction law, and he has pioneered the sub-specialty area of law referred to as “Subcontractor Law” in the State of Georgia.  He is currently co-authoring a book on the subject of Subcontractor Law to be published by the American Bar Association in 2014.
