Thomasville Antiques Show Opens This Weekend
In lieu of writing another blog post on Georgia lien law and payment bond law, we thought that something different might be nice for a change so we’re blogging about one of the best events in Thomasville. This coming weekend is one of the best weekends in town as it is the Thomasville Antique Show & Sale weekend!
The Cobb Law Group is honored to be a part of this exciting weekend, and we urge everyone to support the show by donating money, attending one of the great events or lectures, and, of course, shopping some of the finest art, antique, and jewelry dealers available.
What makes this so amazing, is the almost $2,000,000 the Thomasville Antique Show has raised for local children’s charities since its inception. The show relies upon volunteers to help raise this money as it annual funds such great organizations as Camp Arrow, Family Enrichment Group, Halcyon Home, Hands on Thomas County, Boys and Girls Club of Thomas County, Thomas County Public Library, Thomasville Music & Drama Troup, and the Vashti Center, Inc.
So many participates make this a signature weekend for Thomasville, but, ultimately, it’s the dealers who bring such prestige to our community. This year there are 34 fantastic dealers including such fine dealers as William Secord Gallery, Inc. in New York City, Whitehall at the Villa Antiques in Chapel Hill, NC, Red Fox Fine Art of Middleburg, VA, David Allan Ramsay Antiques of Cape Porpoise, ME, and many, many other great dealers.
The weekend kicks off with the best party in town this Thursday night–the Preview Party where party goers wearing black tie gets the first peek at the all the terrific items for sale! Coach Andy Young always provides plenty of libations and this year, J B Crumbs catering will be serving a delicious seated dinner for almost 300 guests! It’s a great opportunity to see friends, insure the best selections of antiques for purchasing, and enjoying yourself!
On Friday night, the Antique Show is starting a new tradition with a fabulous cocktail party for 100 people called the New Collectors Nights. We have been assured that age is not important, it’s about a willingness to help raise money for the charities, have some vintage cocktails with friends, and shop the show in a very uninhibited manner–perhaps to learns something new or even take something home with you. In fact, there will be specially priced merchandise for sale this evening (every dealer has been asked to offer items under $250!) to entice new collectors to join our events.
This year there are three outstanding lectures. Noted interior decorator Suzanne Kasler will be speaking on Friday, February 22 at 10:00 a.m. and signing her book “Inspired Interiors”. On Saturday morning at 11:00 Nashville landscape designer Ben Page promises to give a great lecture on landscaping and landscape architecture. Finally, renowned classical architect Gil Schafer speaks at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and signing his fantastic new book “The Great American House”.
In addition, there are Antiques Road Show style appraisals, a Junior Collector Class for those 10 and up, a brunch, and a lunch round-out this great weekend. You are welcome to visit the show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; some of the special events, however, require reservations or advanced ticket sales. Please visit www. thomasvilleantiquesshow.com to purchase tickets online and for more information. We hope to see you there!
